Oita Stadium, also called Show Denko Dome Oita, is a multi-purpose stadium, opened in 2001. It is located in Oita Sports Park. Oita Trinita, J League team, uses this stadium as the home stadium.
This stadium was used for 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan for 3 matches. And, it is used for sports events and musical concerts.
The stadium used to hold 43,000 people including movable seats for 3,000 people. However, these movable seats were removed after 2002 FIFA World Cup and now the stadium holds 40,000 people.
There is no train station around the station. It takes 25 minutes from Oita station by taxi. The main transportation is bus or shuttle bus.
The stadium can be accessed from JR Oita station by bus. There are buses from bus stops at Oita station to a bus stop at Oita Sports Park. From the bus stop, it takes 5 minutes to the stadium by walking. In total, it takes 50 ~ 60 minutes by bus and walking from JR Oita station.
There are 2 bus stops at Oita station, Oita Ekimae bus stop No.3 and No.6. Buses from No.3 take 35 minutes to the bus stop at Oita Sports Park while buses from No.6 take 45 minutes to the bus stop at Oita Sports Park.
Even though there are local buses between Oita station and the part where the stadium is located, there are usually shuttle buses available when a sport event is taken place at the stadium. Shuttle bus operates between Oita station and the stadium. This is the best option to go to the stadium from the station for most of the people.
If you don’t wanna use bus, taxi can be an option. By taxi, it takes 25 minutes from Oita station. It usually costs around 2,500 yen.
Air is the most popular way to go to Oita from Tokyo. There are flights from Haneda International Airport (HDN) Domestic Terminal or Narita International Airport (NRT) to Oita Airport (OIT). It takes about 3~4 hours from Tokyo to Oita, including trains to the airport in Tokyo.
You can go to Oita from Tokyo by train. You can take Shinkansen and limited express train from Tokyo station to Oita station with 1 transit at Kokura. You can take Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kokura. Then, you take Limited Express Sonic from Kokura to Oita. With this option, it takes more than 6 hours.
From Osaka, you can either fly or take trains. There are flights from Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport) to Oita Airport.
By train, you can take Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Kokura. And, then you take Limited Express train Sonic from Kokura to Oita. In total, it takes around 4 hours by train.
You can go to Oita from Nagoya by air or train. By air, you can take a flight from Chubu Centrair International Airport to Oita Airport.
By train, you can take a Shinkansen from Nagoya to Kokura. And, then you take Limited Express train Sonic from Kokura to Oita. It takes 4 hours 50 minutes from Nagoya to Oita by train.
From Hakata (Fukuoka), you can go to Oita by train. You can take Limited Express train Sonic from Hakata station to Oita station. There is no transit required for this option. And, it takes 2 hours 20 minutes for this option.
You can take Shinkansen from Hakata to Kokura. And, then you take Limited Express train Sonic from Kokura to Oita. With this option, it takes little less compared to the previous option.
If you want to use Japan Rail Pass, please go to JR Oita station by JR train. From Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, you can take Shinkansen to Kokura station. And, then you can take Limited Express train Sonic from Kokura to Oita. You can take these trains with your JR Pass, excluding Shinkansen Nozomi trains.
From Fukuoka/Hakata, you can also use your JR Pass. You can take Shinkansen and Limited Express trains from Hakata to Oita.
From JR Oita station, you need to take shuttle bus.

Beppu is divided into eight major hot spring areas, called Beppu Hatto.

Oita Marine Palace Aquarium is an aquarium located in Oita city. It is also called Umitamago. This aquarium have 500 species of 15,000 fishes. It is selected top 10 aquariums/animal theme parks in Japan for several rankings.
There are performances which you can enjoy watching sea animals as well as touching them.
Walrus is the most popular performer at this aquarium. Also, there is performance by dolphins.
You can access this aquarium from JR Oita station by local buses.
