City of Toyota Stadium is located in Toyota city in Aichi prefecture. This is the stadium for 4 pool matches of Rugby World Cup JAPAN 2019.

Stadium

City of Toyota Stadium (TOYOTA Stadium) is the 2nd biggest soccer stadium where Nagoya Grampus of J1 League uses as the home stadium. Toyota Verblitz, rugby union team in the Top League, also uses this stadium as the home stadium.

The stadium was built in 2001 in order to be a venue for 2002 FIFA World Cup, but this stadium was not selected. It was one of the venues for FIFA Club World Cup hosted in Japan, 2005 ~ 2008, 2011, and 2012, which Toyota Motor Corporation sponsored.

Train

There are 2 stations near the stadium, Meitetsu Toyotashi station and Aichi Loop Line Shin-Toyota station.

Toyotashi station

Toyotashi is a station of Meitetsu Mikawa Line. It can be accessed from Meitetsu Nagoya station. From Toyotashi station, it takes about 15 minutes by walking to the stadium.

Shin-Toyota Station

This is a station of Aichi Loop Line. This station can be accessed from JR Okazaki station and JR Nagoya station. It takes about 17 minutes by walking from Shin-Toyota station to the stadium.

 

Airport Shuttle bus

There are shuttle buses from Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO). It takes about 80 minutes from the airport to the stadium.

 

How to access to Toyota from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka

From Tokyo to Toyota

You can take a Shinkansen, bullet train, from Tokyo to Nagoya. Then, you can take Meitetsu Nagoya Line from Meitetsu Nagoya station to Chiryu, then transit to Meitetsu Mikawa Line from Chiryu to Toyotashi station.

You can also take another route from Nagoya. There is a JR line from Nagoya station to Kozoji station by JR Chuo Line. And, from Kozoji, you can take Aichi Loop Line to Shin-Toyota station.

From Osaka to Toyota

You can take a Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Nagoya. Then, you can take Meitetsu Nagoya Line from Meitetsu Nagoya station to Chiryu, then transit to Meitetsu Mikawa Line from Chiryu to Toyotashi station.

You can also take another route from Nagoya. There is a JR line from Nagoya station to Kozoji station by JR Chuo Line. And, from Kozoji, you can take Aichi Loop Line to Shin-Toyota station.

From Nagoya to Toyota

You can take Meitetsu Nagoya Line from Meitetsu Nagoya station to Toyotashi station with 1 transit at Chiryu station.

You can also choose to go to Kozoji station by JR Chuo line. And, then you take Aichi Loop Line from Kozoji station to Shin-Toyota station.

From Fukuoka to Toyota

You can take a Shinkansen or a flight. With Shinkansen, you go to Nagoya station by Shinkansen Nozomi. Then, you take local trains.

You can fly from Fukuoka Airport to Chubu Centrair International Airport. And from the airport, you can take an airport shuttle bus to the stadium.

 

How to go to the stadium with Japan Rail Pass

You can use your JR Pass to go to JR Nagoya station by Shinkansen. From Nagoya station, if you take Meitetsu trains, you can not use your pass.

If you want to use your pass as much as possible, you can take JR Chuo line from Nagoya to Kozoji station.

Toyota Municipal Museum of Art

This is a museum, opened in 1995, located in Toyota city. The museum is designed by a Japanese architect, Yoshio Taniguchi who renovated the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. And its gardens was designed by American landscape designer, Peter Walker.

This museum focuses on the movement of the Wiener Moderne. It holds portraits by Gustav Krimt, Egon Shiele, and Oskar Kokoschka. It also holds work by Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, and more.

What to eat in Toyota

Aichi prefecture where Toyota is located has some famous local foods.

Misonikomi Udon

Udon is a noodle made from wheat flour. It is a popular food in Japan. Misonikomi Udon has a unique noodle soup made of Miso. Udon is simmered in a kind of miso soup and it is served hot, a great food in winter.

Tebasaki (Chicken wings)

Tebasaki is a Japanese style chicken wings. It is often served with a sauce and some spices, such as salt, pepper, and sesame. Tebasaki is good with beer.

Tenmusu

It is a rice ball with deep-fried shrimp, shrimp tempura. Deep-fried shrimp and rice ball is wrapped with nori, seaweed. It is easy to eat so that it is often purchased by tourists and business persons who want to eat tenmusu on Shinkansen.
